Tuscaloosa, Alabama, LSU football game. I’m an adopted fan of Alabama. We go every year. My Mom was a big fan of Bear Bryant, she loved watching football. I got to know some of the players and alums. I got to see the locker room, and I’ve brought the kids on the field many times. We are going in early November. Laptop, ear pods, several sets of headphones for my kids, almonds and energy bars and moisturizer. An eye mask so I can sleep and my notebook and pen, and any other reading materials I need for work and background on the place that I am going to. In Burgundy, France I found at a flea market an embroidered – 100-plus years old – piece of silk stretched across a board – with silk-embroidered eagles – I love eagles – with the French and Russian flags on it. It was beautiful. I brought it home and framed it. It’s in my library. It was a wonderful trip to France with my brother. Grenada in 1992. It was pretty grim. After the short-lived conflict. I’m sure it’s incredible now but it was very disappointing. We cut that trip short. The Post Ranch Inn in the Monterey Peninsula in California. It forces you to slow down. It’s phenomenal. Views of the Pacific and it just smells really good – fireplaces in every room. An amazing spa and hot baths and they have great hikes. It is south of the Monterey Peninsula near Ventana, which is also great. That’s a two-day place. Super luxe. I feel guilty after two days. United, Jet Blue, American, and Southwest. What frequent-flyer memberships are you part of? ![]() You go there and can also do it remotely. I do it a lot 4-5 times a week in the Washington area. It’s my go-to workout. I don’t run anymore. I always try to exercise – I try to do something. Hotels will give you a yoga mat – a lot of Pilates stretching in the morning – we’re sitting so much (in the studio) - I do Orange Theory – it’s a circuit workout – a chain of specialty circuit workout – rowing, treadmill and floor. How did you stay fit and trim during your travels, and also keep up your energy? I’ve always wanted to go to the Galapagos and Antarctica. Those are the two places. If I lie down I will sleep for six hours! For personal travel we don’t sleep and hit the ground running. Went to Greece with my family a few years ago we landed at 7am and toured Athens right away. We just kept moving. Ignoring jet lag works for me. In Paris we did a show at 4 in the morning and it was brutal – for the Normandy anniversary. I just try normally try to stay on East Coast time. I just ignore it. I power through it. If It’s a short trip I just stay on East Coast time. It’s too hard to do it otherwise. If we go to Europe that’s pretty hard. What I like to take are travel -sized containers – of the basics – I have travel sizes of La Mer products, whether it’s the mineral water cleanser – it’s the best for me. I use it after makeup remover and cleansing. I cleanse with Cetaphil cleanser. I don’t take giant things. I pour it into smaller containers. I Like L’Oreal Cell Renewal – their Age Perfect Cell Renewal – I love that. I use La Mer night cream – I love it. What health and beauty products are never without you on a trip? (Laughs). It has two compartments and a main compartment for bulkier stuff – it carries a ton of stuff and you can put it in the overhead. I’m clinging to my old T.J. I actually use – it’s 18 years old and falling apart – luggage made by Riccardo that they actually no longer make. It’s really important to get out of the studio as much as possible, in my view. We were In San Francisco and Los Angeles covering gang-related issues with the police and the struggles of businesses with this crush of homelessness. We did four shows in California. ![]() ![]() ![]() I do a lot of travel for stories and shows. We were just in California for a week, and will do other shows this Fall. Wyoming. Everything that I love about free time and the outdoors you can pretty much do there. Much to my children’s chagrin – hiking. They are used to Mom saying that we are getting up early and heading out. It’s a running joke in our family. They usually enjoy it after a couple of hours on the hike. I’m really a hiker.
